Subject: [Citizen-Mumbai] Press Meet and Workshop on 8th Dec at 12 noon

Dear Friend,

CITIZENS! TAKE CHARGE!

There has never been so great a need for civil society – citizens and business – to come together. Politicians and the administration have let us down tragically and are unlikely to improve on their disgraceful recent performance.

You are invited to a meeting with the media at 12 noon on Monday, December 8, 2008 at the Mumbai Marathi Patrakar Sangh, opposite BMC, CST.

Countless citizens want to do “something” in this crisis – but do what?  A group of prominent citizens has taken the first step to outline a plan of action. It comprises Mr. B.G. Deshmukh, former Cabinet Secretary and Principal Secretary to three Prime Ministers, Justice B.N. Srikrishna, recently of the Supreme Court, Mr. D.M. Sukthankar, former Chief Secretary, Maharashtra, Mr. Julio Ribeiro, former Police head in Mumbai and the Punjab, Mr. Sanjay Ubale, former bureaucrat and now in private business, Ms Nayana Kathpalia (NAGAR), Mr. Dolphy D’Souza (Bombay Catholic Sabha), Mr. A.D. Moddie, former bureaucrat and Director of Hindustan Lever, Mr. Prem Mehta, senior advertising & marketing man, and Mr. Gerson da Cunha (AGNI).

A lot that they are suggesting makes sense, has long been known but requires government to act – and they have not. It will be up to citizens and citizen groups to raise a voice and apply pressure that no politics or administration can ignore.

Please come and contribute your ideas on how we can come together into a force that is of political significance.  Representatives of the above group will speak but their ideas are up for discussion and support, which is where you and your own group come in.

See you on Monday, December 8, 2008 at noon.

Gerson da Cunha
