URGENT. HAPPENINGS IN PEREIRA WADI IS A BLOT ON THE ATTITUDE OF THE BANDRA POLICE STATION AND THE GOVERNMENT

PEREIRA WADI ISSUE- THE BOMBAY CATHOLIC SABHA CONDEMNS THE MOTIVE TO TERRORISE THE RESIDENTS WHOSE HOMES WERE DEMOLISHED. MR. RAM DAYAL YADAV ONE OF THE RESIDENTS WHOSE HOME WAS DEMOLISHED WAS ATTACKED IN THE EARLY HOURS OF JULY 29. BATTLING FOR LIFE AT KEM HOSPITAL. WE URGE DEPUTY CHIEF MINISTER TO HAND OVER PROBE TO THE CRIME BRANCH AS PEOPLE HAVE LOST CONFIDENCE IN THE BANDRA POLICE STATION. PROBE THE ROLE OF THE CHIEF PROMOTER OF THE ALLEGED SRA PROJECT AND THE DEVELOPER. APPREHEND THE CULPRITS FOR THIS DASTARDLY ATTACK IN THE NEXT 72 HOURS OR FACE A MASSIVE PUBLIC AGITATION.

The Bombay Catholic Sabha condemns the dastardly attack on Mr. Ram Dayal Yadav, one of the residents of Pereirawadi whose home was demolished on June 02.

Mr. Yadav and his family have been living under the Tarpaulin Cover outside their home which was demolished. In the early hours of July 29 [ today] around 12.45 a.m, one miscreant got down from the rickshaw picked up a stone [weighing approx 2.5 kgs] and smashed it on the head of Mr. Ram Dayal Yadav and disappeared from the scene of the crime. The seriously injured bleeding Mr. Yadav had to be rushed to KEM Hospital and is battling for his life. It appears when the members of the family approached the Bandra Police Station immediately after the incident to register the FIR, they were asked to come back to the police station at 9.00 a.m. in the morning. We condemn the callousness of the police station in not promptly attending to this very serious issue. This has given enough time for the culprit to escape.

On July 24 at around 10.30 a.m. Ms Daksha Peter Parmar was attacked by another miscreant who was identified to the Bandra Police with a stone on her head. She had 8 stitches to close the wound.The Bandra Police Station took its own time to register the FIR and no action has been taken by them to apprehend the culprit although he has been identified by the victim.

Striking terror in different forms including accosting one of the young girls and threatening her for which once again an NC was registered at the Bandra Police Station. Inspite of a Police Van being posted such type of attacks and threats are happening. This is a shame.

We demand the following:

1. The Deputy Chief Minister / Home Minister should hand over the probe of such attacks to the Crime Branch immediately.
2. We urge them to investigate the role of the Chief Promoter {who is alleged to be a known anti-social element} of the alleged SRA Scheme and the Developer into
this episodes.
3. We want round the clock protection and security for the homeless residents of the Pereira Wadi and also of the Activists who are involved in working on this issue
4. Bandra Police Station to be pulled up for their partisan behaviour on this issue.

The Bombay Catholic Sabha along with its networking organisations will launch a major public agitation if the culprits are not apprehended immediately.
